2007 Kamloops Film Society Award

Kamloops Film Society Directors Doug Wilson and Nancy Palson presented the annual Kamloops Film Society Award of $750 to TRU student Melissa Somerville at the TRU Annual Awards ceremony. Melissa is currently completing her fourth year in the Fine Arts Program. TRU students have received these awards since the Kamloops Film Society commenced contributions to the TRU Foundation in 1999. Our scholarship fund has awarded students with a total $4,150 to date. Preference is given to students who are furthering their education in fi lm studies. The Awards Committee of the Kamloops Film Society wish to thank you, the patrons, for your support in helping to make this scholarship possible.

KFS Grants

The Kamloops Film Society offers grants of up to $500 to individuals or groups organizing film-related events. This past year we gave a total of $1,300 to five different Kamloops groups to support film in our community. Grant applications may be obtained by contacting Kelly-Anne Maddox at kellyannemaddox@gmail.com. Deadlines for applications are September 15, January 15 and March 15 of each year.

FREE Films!

Buy series or yearly passes and get free films. Our new yearly pass sells for $70, the equivalent of 6 free films. Series passes will get you one free film.per series.
Prices and are:

• $35 for Fall and Spring (6 films each)

• $21 for Winter (4 films)

Passes and gift certificates are available at Moviemart (Seymour and 5th) for a bargain price – a great way to save money and to avoid pesky lineups at the cinema.

KFS Volunteers

As always, the Film Society is looking for door volunteers. Come out and give us a hand, normally once or twice a series, and in return you get to see the film for free. For more information on volunteering with us contact Michele at 374-1228. Kamloops Film Society

Survey

In an effort to serve you better, the Kamloops Film Society will be conducting an audience survey during the 2009 Winter series.

KISS………and the winners are...

The 1st Annual Kamloops Independent Short Short (KISS) Film Competition, sponsored by the Kamloops Film Society, was held on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Kamloops Art Gallery. The guidelines stated that the films were to be less than five minutes in length with the topic of “It Matters.” Ten submissions were received and over fifty people were in attendance for the showing of the films. The winners were:

• 1st place ($500) - Kent Olsen of Kamloops for “It Matters”

• 2nd place ($250) - Dusan Magdolen of Kamloops for “It Doesn’t Matter”

• 3rd place ($100) - Tristan Cavers of Chase for “It Matters: The Origin of a Sandwich”

The People’s Choice Award (a $50 gift certificate to Moviemart), selected by the audience, went to Jana and Brent Sasaki of Clearwater. The other worthy participants in the competition were Lloyd Bishop, Nathan Cole, DoAn Forest, Shelagh Marks, Graeme Salmon and Morgan Sidky. Many thanks to the directors for an amazingly imaginative variety of fi lms and to the audience for your enthusiatic response. The Film Society looks forward to next year’s event.
